To Cast Off
Knit two stitches. Pass the first of these stitches over the second stitch. * Knit one more stitch, then pass the first of these stitches over it. * Repeat from * to * as required. To cast off purlwise work in purl instead of knit. To cast off in rib, knit or purl the stitches as appropriate. When casting off all the stitches, one stitch will remain on the right hand needle. Break off the yarn, thread the end through the remaining stitch and pull firmly. Care should be taken not to cast off too tightly, especially on neckbands. To avoid this it is sometimes advisable to use a size larger needle.
